Whirlwind Week

The week started slowly enough, with an ophthalmologist appointment Monday morning, a regular follow up from the strabismus surgery and a conversation about the results from Parker’s procedure at Children’s Mercy. Fortunately, the doctor was less concerned about the light colored fundus and pigment, so that’s a bit of good news. Unfortunately, we were right in our thoughts that her eyes were beginning to cross again. We’re going to try patching again to see if that helps this time, and I can’t tell you how excited I am to spend a whole hour out of my day repeating “Don’t Touch That” and “Leave It Alone” and “I SAID STOP.” My greatest hits.

It was also noted during this appointment that Parker is developing near-sightedness, possibly a result of the FEVR lasering. As such, we’ve been given a prescription for glasses to see if that helps not just her ability to see, but also in strengthening her right eye. Tiny baby glasses are just…too much. We’ve picked a pair that are more feminine in color (purple), but still fully expect people to tell us what a cute little boy she is.

I put off doing an update, mostly because Monday’s appointment was a bit of a nothing-burger (although the glasses this is def newsworthy), and also because it’s Holy Week and we were expecting company (who has now arrived) and honestly I’m kinda tired and writer’s block is A Thing™ that even non-writers get so that’s cool. But just today we got a phone call scheduling Parker’s next FEVR procedure so that’s worth a paragraph at least.

At her last procedure where the FEVR was discovered, the doctor had said Parker would need to go back under to make sure they got it all. That procedure would take place in 2-3 months. So while I was expecting a call to schedule at some point for end of April or May, I was definitely not expecting the nurse scheduling it to ask if we were available April 11th. Of this year. And a physical we need to take her in for this week. THE WEEK IN WHICH ALL THE THINGS ARE HAPPENING.

Cool, cool.

So now we have a trek to CMH on Friday, and a procedure date on Tuesday of next week (we’re still waiting on the time though). I mean, technically there are worse times that this could’ve all happened during, but there are definitely better, and I have questions about why we didn’t get that option.
