The second (and hopefully last) EUA

Today Parker had her second EUA (Examination Under Anesthesia) at Children’s Mercy. The EUA is to follow up with her first EUA, which at the time treated her for familial exudative vitreoretinopathy (FEVR). FEVR is a frequent condition with CTNNB1 cases, caused by poor blood flow to the retina which can eventually cause retinal detachment and loss of vision. The faulty blood vessels are actually lasered, which allows the other blood vessels to take up the slack. Parker’s was found very early back in April, and this go-round had the pediatric retinal ophthalmologist seeing if the first round was effective.

While there was a little indication of some vessels with issues, which were then treated, the number was so low that the surgeon believed that Parker’s FEVR issues have now passed.

She did great during the procedure, but afterwards slept all the way home and into the evening. She wasn’t the only one who was exhausted!

At this point, we are just waiting for the appointment for Parker to get measured for her foot braces, but hopefully the vision drama has passed!
